Uber India’s Eats app now has a storytelling option; Know how it works
Uber said on July 6th that its Hyderabad-based development team has created a feature named “Merchant Stories” for its food ordering and delivery app “Uber Eats.”
The tech development for ‘Merchant Stories,’ the first interactive feature on the app that lets merchant partners communicate directly with their customers, was spearheaded by Uber’s Hyderabad-based Eats Engineering team.
Eaters were more inclined to make an order when they could see what their selected meal or beverage looked like, according to Uber Eats, citing a customer survey that revealed they felt more comfortable making culinary selections based on photographs.
According to the Eats Engineering team, the feature “Merchant Stories” has only been available in the United States and Canada so far, and it underscores India’s tech centers’ “Make in India for the World” mission.
We realize that a picture is worth a thousand words and that seeing an item in person makes it a lot simpler to order it, according to Jaiteerth Patwari, Eats Engineering’s Site Lead. “We heard from partners who felt they needed to establish a direct line of contact with their customers, and our team set out to create a solution that met their specific requirements.
Eaters felt more at ease making food selections based on photographs and were more inclined to make an order when they could see what their selected meal or beverage looked like, according to a consumer poll. In early testing, 13% of diners who browsed through a restaurant’s stories placed an order in the same session.
Merchants may now join up for the ‘Merchant Stories’ feature to submit frequent updates thanks to this innovation. They can use images and text to inform consumers about special offers, menu modifications, new services, and seasonal promotions.
Over the last year, the Eats Engineering team has driven many worldwide innovations, assisting restaurant partners in reaching more eaters and, in turn, assisting consumers in accessing their favorite dishes. In 2020, these innovations include integrating top digital wallets in Japan and Belgium, as well as connecting more restaurant partners with consumers during lockdowns.
