AmbareeshMurty, one of the co-founders of the e-commerce platform Pepperfry, passed away due to a cardiac arrest in Leh during the evening of Monday, August 7.
On Tuesday (August 8) morning, Ashish Shah, the other co-founder of Pepperfry, expressed his deep sorrow in a tweet. He conveyed the heartbreaking news, stating, “I am extremely devastated to share that my dear friend, mentor, brother, and soulmate AmbareeshMurty is no longer with us. He left us last night due to a cardiac arrest in Leh. Kindly keep him in your prayers and send strength to his family and loved ones.”
Mr. Murty had a strong passion for biking and frequently embarked on motorcycle journeys from Mumbai to Leh. His adventurous spirit was an integral part of his identity.
AmbareeshMurty was an alumnus of Delhi College of Engineering and pursued his MBA from the prestigious Indian Institute of Management Calcutta (IIMC). His journey in the business world commenced 27 years ago when he joined Cadbury as a management trainee. During his tenure of around five and a half years, he contributed to the realm of chocolate manufacturing.
Subsequently, he transitioned to the financial sector, taking on the role of VP – Marketing and Customer Service at ICICI AMC (now known as ICICI Prudential) for nearly two years.
Following his time in the financial industry, he briefly worked with Levi’s for five months before embarking on his own entrepreneurial venture called Origin Resources. The startup aimed to assist mutual fund companies in India. Unfortunately, this endeavor came to a close in 2005. Murty then assumed the role of a marketing manager at Britannia.
After seven months, he ventured into eBay India, where he took on the pivotal position of Country Manager, overseeing operations in India, Malaysia, and the Philippines. It was in 2012 that Murty, along with Ashish Shah, embarked on their entrepreneurial journey together, giving birth to their own enterprise, Pepperfry.
