Apple increases AirPods prices after customs duty hike in India

Following the Indian government’s recent rise in customs duty, Apple has raised the price of its AirPods in the country. This pricing has already been updated on the company’s official Indian website. AirPods Gen 2 and Gen 3 prices have now gone up by up to 10 percent, along with AirPods Max and AirPods Pro. In general, the company has increased the price of the products mentioned above by around 10%. In addition, the most expensive AirPods model, the AirPods Max, has seen a maximum rise of INR 6,200. However, it’s worth noting that Apple India’s online store has been updated with new prices. Currently, mentioned products are only available at the old prices on other e-commerce platforms including Amazon, Flipkart, and Reliance Digital.

“Electronic manufacturing has been rising rapidly and customs duty rates are being calibrated to provide a graded rate structure to facilitate local manufacturing of wearable devices, hearable devices, and electronic smart meters,” Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said in her February budget speech.
In India, Apple currently assembles only a few iPhone models. The Foxconn plant near Chennai is where the iPhone 11 and iPhone 12 are made. The iPhone SE, on the other hand, is built in the Wistron factory near Bengaluru.
The iPhone 13 is the most recent iPhone model to be manufactured in India. The model will be assembled at Foxconn’s Sriperumbudur facility. According to reports, local production of the iPhone 13 will begin this month. The firm has yet to issue an official statement.
