Arvind Krishna Set To Lead IBM as Next Chief Executive Officer

Arvind Krishna, the IIT-Kanpur Alumni of India, will take over as the chief executive of IBM (International Business Machines) from April by replacing Virginia Rometty, American business executive.
Arvind Krishna, as a chief executive officer of International Business Machines Corp (IBM) in April, becomes the third biggest Indian to head a US-based multinational company. He is replacing Rometty and be the third in the world after Microsoft corp’s chief executive officer Satya Nadella and Google CEO Sundar Pichai. The IBM Board of Directors elected Indian- origin Arvind Krishna as company CEO and member of the Board of Directors decides that he will come into the picture from April 6. Mr. Arvind Krishna is currently at the position of IBM’s Senior Vice President for Cloud and Cognitive Software and will succeed Rometty, who will retire after almost 40 years with the company.
Arvind Krishna had joined IBM in the year 1990 and has an undergraduate degree from the IIT (Indian Institute of Technology) Kanpur, and a Doctorate in electrical engineering from the University of Illinois. Arvind said in a press statement released by IBM “I am very thrilled and humbled to be elected as the upcoming Chief Executive Officer of IBM, and I will appreciate the confidence that Virginia Rometty and the Board Directors have placed in me”.
Krishna’s current responsibilities included IBM Security and Cognitive Applications business, IBM Cloud, and IBM Research. He is the one who leads the unit”s strategy, product design, offering development, overall marketing, sales, and service. Apart from that he also looks after IBM”s overall strategy in core and emerging technologies including AI (artificial intelligence), quantum computing, blockchain management, cloud platform services, data-driven solutions, and nanotechnology. Arvind Krishna in a report said “IBM has such a wide ocean of talented people and technology that we can bring together to help our society to solve their toughest problems. He also added “I am also looking forward to working with talented IBMers, Red Hatters and diverse clientele around the globe.
