Minoxidil topical solution USP 2 percent and 5 percent, a prescription medicine for the treatment of female pattern hair loss (FPHL), was introduced on August 8th by Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories. In a regulatory filing, the business stated, Dr. Reddy’s drugs will be marketed under the Mintop TM 2 percent and Mintop EvaTM 5 percent brand names, respectively.
The introduction comes after the Central Drugs Standard Control Organization (COSCO) in India granted the first-ever additional indication for the use of Minoxidil topical solution USP 2 percent and 5 percent for the treatment of FPHL.
Female pattern hair loss is the most common cause of hair loss in women, and its presence increases with age, causing psychological distress. Initial symptoms may appear throughout adolescence, leading to gradual hair loss with a distinct pattern distribution.
In India, a topical minoxidil solution would be provided as a first-line treatment for FPHL. While Minoxidil topical solution for the treatment of alopecia in men (male pattern baldness) has been licensed in India, there are currently no additional medications approved for the treatment of FPHL in the country.
The prevalence of FPHL may also rise after menopause, possibly due to hormonal influences. Minoxidil Topical Solution acts as a peripheral vasodilator, improving hair follicle microcirculation. By expanding the width of the hair shaft, it can reverse the hair loss process of androgenetic alopecia.
The solution is in charge of promoting anagen growth and extending the anagen duration. It also promotes the transition from telogen to anagen. Minoxidil will only be available with a dermatologist’s prescription.
It’s the first time a first-line treatment option for female pattern hair loss has received FDA approval, and it addresses a previously unmet need, according to M.V. Ramana, Branded Markets (India & Emerging Markets), CEO said that we think that by making our Minoxidil topical solution for women (Mintop 2 percent & Mintop Eva 5 percent) widely available in the country, we will be able to bring relief and comfort to patients in India who have been diagnosed with FPHL.
Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories is a pharmaceutical business. Pharmaceutical services and active ingredients, global generics, and proprietary products are the three businesses that the company operates.
