Flipkart an e-commerce platform has launched a new feature which uses Augmented Reality (AR) to provide an immersive e-commerce experience on its shopping app. Customers will be able to virtually preview how a thing will appear in reality before buy products using the Flipkart App’s augmented reality feature.
Customers would be able to have a 3D experience of items like furniture, baggage, and major appliances via the camera, which would allow them to estimate the size and fit of the item as well as understand its aesthetics before making a purchase decision. Augmented reality would also include the beauty products category.
To begin with, a ‘view in your room’ option displays under a select set of products listed on Flipkart. Clicking on the same, open the camera, and moving the device camera on the floor for a few seconds superimposes a life-sized replica of the product indoors.
With Flipkart Camera, we want to take this experience up another level by delivering an in-house display of items from the comfort of the consumer’s living room, giving them a hands-on experience, said Jayandran Venugopal, Flipkart’s Chief Product, and Technology Officer.
Customers are rapidly increasingly who are using augmented reality technology due to the massive use of smartphones. According to Gartner’s research, Gen Z and millennials are driving demand for Augmented Reality (AR) and Virtual Reality (VR) features, with 30% of users wanting more AR/VR capabilities incorporated into their purchasing experience.
On eCommerce platforms, augmented reality allows consumers to visually try products and see how they would fit, which not only improves the user experience but also increases eCommerce sales.
