Written by Sanjay Kumar
As violence continues to grip Gurgaon, with clashes spreading to various sectors in the city, companies and educational institutes have taken proactive measures to ensure the safety of their employees and students. The situation has also put Delhi on alert, prompting increased security measures.
Temporary Work-From-Home Policies Reinstated by Companies
In the wake of the violent clashes in Sectors 57 and 67 of Gurgaon, several companies have decided to reinstate work-from-home policies temporarily. Among them are prominent companies like KPMG and American Express. Additionally, private banks have discontinued offline operations and asked their employees to return home until the situation stabilizes. These measures are aimed at ensuring the safety and well-being of the employees amidst the tense atmosphere in the city.
Schools and Educational Institutes Shut Down
Alongside companies, schools and other educational institutions have also taken precautionary steps to safeguard their students. On Wednesday, 2nd August, schools in Gurugram remained closed in light of the ongoing clashes. The closure is intended to protect the students from any potential risks and provide a safer environment for learning.
Delhi on High Alert
The escalating violence in Gurugram has raised concerns in the national capital, leading to increased security measures. The Delhi Police have heightened patrolling and vigilance in response to the communal clashes in Gurugram and adjoining areas in Haryana. The authorities are closely monitoring the situation and are prepared to respond swiftly to any incidents that might arise in Delhi due to the spillover effect of the violence.
Gurugram Deputy Commissioner Assures Normalcy
Despite the tense situation, Gurugram’s Deputy Commissioner, Nishant Yadav, assured the public that the situation is under control, and normalcy has been restored in the city. Markets have reopened, indicating a step towards resuming routine activities. However, authorities continue to monitor the situation closely to prevent any further escalation.
Background of Gurugram Violence
The recent outbreak of violence in Gurugram can be traced back to the communal clashes that occurred on July 31 in Haryana’s Nuh district. The unrest eventually spread to neighboring Gurugram, resulting in the loss of five lives, including an Imam and two home guards. Haryana’s Chief Minister, Manohar Lal Khattar, referred to the violence as part of a “big conspiracy” and vowed strict action against those responsible. The Haryana Home Minister, Anil Vij, also stated that the violence appeared to be “engineered.”
