Edappadi K Palaniswami, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister on Thursday, inaugurated the new research and development facility for automobile giant Ford Motors in Chennai. The new center for R&D is located inside the Ford’s Global Technology and Business Centre in the ELCOT (Electronics Corporation of Tamil Nadu). SEZ (Special Economic Zone) campus in Sholinganallur, on the old Mahabalipuram Road which is popularly known as the IT Expressway of Chennai.
According to a press statement issued by Ford automobiles, India shows the highlights that have the importance of Tamil Nadu for Ford and also reaffirms the company’s commitment to the Indian market by providing job opportunities. The statement made by Ford also said that the newly inaugurated Center for R&D has various facilities like simulation labs for testing new innovative technology, VR (virtual reality) labs to encourage advanced manufacturing simulations, AI (Artificial Intelligence) and innovative Machine Learning capabilities. The new integrated center also has a component and a vehicle lab for design, development, and testing of automobiles made by Ford.
According to a report by the Economic Times, the Sholinganallur center is the third most important research and development set up by Ford in the Asian Pacific region. The Ford India also had an extreme investment of over two billion dollars across the country and they promise to provide employment to over 14000 people.
The agreement for this set up shows a new Ford Research and Development Centre in Chennai that was signed before in the first Global Investors Meet held in 2015 led by the former Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa. Hereby, this project was announced in the Assembly by the Deputy Chief Minister in the year 2016. The government of Tamil Nadu had also sanctioned overall 28 acres at Sholinganallur to set up the center for R&D.
