NOBLE CAUSE
AN EFFORT TO MAKE FUNERALS AS ENVIRONMENTALLY FRIENDLY AS POSSIBLE
For all human beings, death is an unavoidable part of life. As a result, individuals all around the world have devised various methods for performing the last rites for their loved ones, relatives, acquaintances, or family members. As part of this practice, the most frequent ways we perform the last rites of the deceased are burial and cremation, but while these techniques are rooted in culture, they are not ecologically beneficial. Environmentalists are becoming increasingly concerned about the environmental impacts of traditional funerals and cremation rites.
Examine the reality that nearly 50 million people die each year, then consider the environmental consequence of mortality.
Cremation emits countless units of metric tons of carbon dioxide per year. More than half of Indians choose to be cremated after death, resulting in carbon pollution amounting to the annual energy consumption of millions of houses. The traditional technique of cremation with wood has a significant environmental impact since “the forest area is sacrificed and toxic fumes emitted from the combustion of human mortal bodies contaminate the air. With the cremation rate expected to skyrocket in the next two decades, it becomes absolutely necessary to think of an alternative.
Why can’t we make our funerals eco-friendly by looking at green burial choices as an alternative and commitment to safeguarding our planet earth? There is a plethora of burial alternatives available, depending on how far one is prepared to go green after death.
It is our responsibility to propel the belief in a direction that will shift the mindset of people practicing their faith and encourage them to embrace eco-friendly practices.
On that note, Cheema Boilers, India’s top steam boiler manufacturer, has initiated a practice named ‘Noble Cause’ with all due respect using the latest technology in crematoria. This involves smokeless cremation of the body, saves wood consumption, and has huge relief on the environment. The ashes, collected at the bottom, can be used to plant a tree. Plant a tree, create a memory, give the departing soul an eco-friendly farewell!
“If we have such high regard for a deceased that we wrap the body in the national flag, why should we burn that body in this archaic manner? Allow us to perform the final rites in this stainless steel gleaming NOBLE CAUSE Cart. This task is too huge for us to complete without your help, as it involves fundamental societal transformation.” says Harjinder Singh Cheema
NOBLE CAUSE CART
“The country’s dead corpse handling situation could not be accepted during COVID. As a result, we collaborated
with the Indian Institute of Technology Ropar to create this one-of-a-kind product known as “NOBLE CAUSE.” says Harjinder Singh Cheema
Noble Cause is designed with loads of critical thinking from an environmental point of view. The makers while designing this tool have considered the families that have lost their loved ones with all due respect.
- The cart has wheels and is towable.
- Stainless steel trays on both sides for easy ash removable.
- The cart is equipped with combustion air for primary and secondary hot air systems.
- The disposal is completed within 2-3 hrs as against 48 hrs.
- High temperature burning beyond 1000 Deg C ensures complete sterile burning.
- It also has the benefit of using just one-third of the energy required for cremation
“Let us properly execute the final rites for our fellow citizens while also saving the environment and trees so that they can create more oxygen by promoting the “NOBLE CAUSE” gadget.” the chairman urges the nation.
A COMPARISON BETWEEN CONVENTIONAL & NOBLE CAUSE CART
Conventional | Noble Cause Cart |
Low temperature burning over a longer period. | High temperature burning Period for a shorter period. |
More burning wood is required | Less burning wood required. |
Fixed | Portable on wheels. |
No proper combustion air. | Proper primary and secondary hot air system. |
High heat storage due to refractory. | No heat storage and refractory. |
Longer cooling time due to refractory. | Less cooling time as no refractory heat storage. |
Possibility of bacteria survival due to low temperature burning. | High temperature burning ensures complete sterilization. |
Paramjit Singh Oberai, a president of Shamshan Bhumi Sudhar Samiti shares his experiences of recently installing the “Noble Cause Cart’.
“We have installed two of these in our cremation ground at Madanpur cremation ground with the Great help from our Rtn Devinder Jain. This reduces the time to Two & a half hours and 50% wood is used. I am thankful to Devinderji for getting one through Donation also.
A DIFFERENT PERSPECTIVE
“This will be an opportunity for all those who want to start their own business with minimum investment as we would be appointing dealers in all cities of India and preference will be given to Ex-Defense persons and young graduates who are willing to choose marketing as a career and have good communication skills,’’ says the Chairman.
“Since nobody wants to visit this field there is full vacuum & ample scope as everybody has to finally reach there. Needless to inform, Agarwal Movers & Packers have made special arrangements for transporting these carts throughout India on a special freight as a gesture to society.”
FINAL THOUGHTS
Even if you attempt to sustain a decent, clean, moderate lifestyle, the typical means of corpse disposal are unlikely to be as environmentally beneficial as your life choices. The common methods of body disposal represent substantial environmental dangers.
Economists have been looking at what kind of regulatory requirements are most likely to motivate corporations to help protect the environment. On that note, environmentally thoughtful practices like the ‘Noble Cause Cart’ come as a major relief to the environment and the families.
Sustainable funerals like these are a relatively recent facet of a growing trend that has been gaining traction for decades. Such methods consume a lot less energy, generate a lot less Smoke, and don’t produce hazardous pollutants. So as responsible citizens as you and your departed loved one lead an ecologically conscious life, you must ensure that the end-of-life service reflects a clean eco-friendly departure. The world will be grateful for your final act.
As saving the environment is not a one-man show and requires unanimous effort from society, we all should come together to save the ecology and make it a better place.
“I’d like to use this occasion to call out to all responsible people of our nation, as well as institutions like the Lions Club, Rotary Club, temples, gurudwaras, other social working groups, and non-governmental organizations (NGOs). We would appreciate your help in this matter and ask that you forward this letter to all of your connections and groups.” says the chairman of Cheema Boilers- Harjinder Singh Cheema.
