Today (July 16), Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated Uttar Pradesh’s sixth expressway between Chitrakoot and Etawah, a project that started in 2020 and has now ended. Notably, the 296 km four-lane expressway has been constructed at a cost of around INR 14,850 crore. With the unveiling of the expressway, the region will get a major boost in connectivity and industrial development.

Officials said the Modi government has focused a lot on connectivity and infrastructure. In the last seven years, the length of national highways in the country has increased by more than 50 percent from 91,287 km (as of April 2014) to about 1,41,000 km (as of December 31, 2021). The foundation stone of the four-lane expressway was laid by prime minister Modi on February 29, 2020. Within 28 months, the Expressway’s construction was finished.
According to officials, the Modi government has given connectivity and infrastructure a lot of attention. The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways received the highest budgetary allocation ever in the budget year 2022–23, totaling INR 1.99 lakh crore. When compared to the approximate INR 30,300 crore allocation in 2013–14, this represents an increase of more than 550%.
Bundelkhand Expressway Key Features
STARTING POINT: Near Bharatkoop at Jhansi-Prayagraj National Highway Number-35 in district Chitrakoot.
ENDING POINT: Near village Kudrail in district Etawah on Agra-Lucknow expressway.
LENGTH: Total 296.070 KM.
DISTRICTS BENEFITED: Chitrakoot, Banda, Mahoba, Hamirpur, Jalaun, Auraiya, and Etawah.
MAIN RIVERS FALLING ON ALIGNMENT: Bagen, Ken, Shyama, Chandawal, Birma, Yamuna, Betwa, and Sengar.
PROPOSED STRUCTURES ON THE EXPRESSWAY: 4 Railway Over Bridges, 14 Large bridges, 6 Toll Plazas, 7 Ramp Plaza, 266 small bridges, and 18 Fly Overs will also be constructed on the expressway.
