MEET SHAMITA MALLYA, THE FOUNDER OF MALLYAS & CO.
Mumbai Based Law Firm that Provides Innovative Legal & Business Solutions
One of the most important aspects that have brought Mallyas & Co to this position is that they concentrate a lot on emotional intelligence or ’people skills’ – which is widely overlooked as a critical legal skill. I believe that lawyers with high intellect (IQ) and people skills (EQ) will always thrive, no matter how pervasive technology becomes in legal delivery – and Mallyas & Co. is unmatched as far as this balance is considered.”
MS. SHAMITA MALLAYA, THE FOUNDER OF MALLYAS & CO Women have played critical roles in the expansion of the legal profession. Gone are the days when female attorneys used to battle for justice and to lead the way for women in the industry, whether they are defending clients in court, representing corporations, or delivering significant decisions. Certain women advocates have left indelible marks on the legal profession. Having said this we bring before you a story of a successful female lawyer and her efforts to positively influence the legal profession.
Shamita Mallya is a next-generation Indian lawyer, a qualified Journalist, certified trainer to many corporate houses on POSH, Author, Educator, Policymaker, and Women & Children Protectionist. Her determination and tenacity in the face of hardship have resulted in new laws and more fair policies, as well as the continuation of the battle against injustice in other areas. Her contributions to the field are admirable and deserving of recognition
Her primary areas of practice are Family Law, Corporate Law, and Cyber Law. In addition, she provides POSH consultation to corporations. For more than a decade, she has led the Indian law company Mallyas & Co. Shamita’s mentor, guide, and senior Adv. Kunda Pal, who was eager to bring her up to speed on the nuances of core legal practice, assisted her in breaking into an industry dominated by established law firms. She quotes
“My focus is on simplicity. As lawyers, we have an art of complicating things, but it is reducing the complication that gives me consumer confidence. People and businesses come to us with a variety of difficulties, and they come to us having exhausted all other options and relying on us for a solution. It’s not only about the law; clients come in to talk about structures and how to do business according to the rules of the game. As a result, Mallyas & Co.’s primary practice area is compliance and policy formulation.”
PROBLEM-SOLVING- A VITAL ELEMENT IN THE LEGAL PROFESSION
A good lawyer should be able to analyze a variety of circumstances. This includes the capacity to spot issues in complicated legal and fact-based situations. It is also necessary to be able to give solutions. Lawyers are, to a major part, professional problem solvers. People shift a load of a problem onto their shoulders, therefore attorneys must concentrate on achieving the greatest practical result. You must accurately identify the difficulties and issues, and, most importantly, give answers.
Looking into Shamita’s life story, her focus was not only on the application of legal expertise but also on complementing it with a precisely curated process and project management structure, which set the company apart from other well-established and prominent law companies, right from the start. With her foresighted approach, she was able to effectively communicate the case’s future in an atmosphere where the clients were ignorant of the case’s future. This came as a tremendous relief to the clients, particularly the corporate clients. Shamita feels that a proactive strategy and forecasting approach provide enough opportunities to look outside the box for solutions.
“ I believe that judges and administrators must take even more innovative measures in the administration of justice. However, in order to innovate, attorneys must first get a greater understanding of the public’s expectations for access to justice and how they may be met. It is necessary to make justice more about how it makes sense to do it today rather than how it has always been done. Everything from court regulations to normal court hours, financial paperwork to penalties, and fees must be examined. It’s crucial to figure out whether assumptions, prejudices, practices, processes, and traditions degrade or, worse, deprive justice-seekers.” adds the founder.
GROWTH OF TECHNOLOGY IN THE LEGAL PROFESSION
The legal profession is being transformed by new technologies, platforms, and communication methods. Digital transformation is being embraced by many legal companies. We can now make a compelling case due to the increasing relevance of technology-assisted legal practice. Of course, technology is present in every law company and legal department. However, infrastructure alone is no longer sufficient
Instead, to increase efficiency, attorneys must transition to a tech-enabled practice.
“Now software can examine documents more quickly and potentially more accurately than humans. We must learn to understand technology’s applications like e-discovery, cyber-security, contract management, legal research, etc, and optimally utilize the same in the delivery of legal services. These terms were unheard of ten years ago when I started the practice. We have a strong belief that tech will be worthwhile in the global marketplace – that the future lawyers collaborate, design, and deliver new products and services across nations and continents. It’s a time of great opportunity for future lawyers to bring millions of new customers into the marketplace—for the benefit of all.”
Mallyas & Co- A law firm devoted to providing cutting-edge solutions to its customers in a new era.
When Mallyas & Co began, it was a group of a few young attorneys who sought to carve out a place for themselves. They began focusing on the SME market, which marked a turning point for them. They are now a ten-year-old business, well-positioned to strike the next objective.
“Our next step would be to empower consumers. It has been a rewarding experience for us. Our staff and client retention rates were often the same. I’ve seen a lot of major companies lose their equilibrium in that area, and I believe we’ve been successful to that extent. Our greatest accomplishment is our ability to work together “

For over 10 years, the company has had a mix of legal and paralegal employees. Given the qualifications of its creator and proprietor, Adv. Shamita Mallya, who is managing this vibrant team of young attorneys, is not surprising. Shamita is well-known in the fields of litigation, arbitration, family law, and business law. Her capacity to develop talent is also apparent, and she has proven to be a valuable asset to the firm’s clients.
Before signing off, the founder shares words of wisdom for all young entrepreneurs aspiring and working hard to build a brand value.
“I’d like to encourage the next generation to be curious and ask more questions. It’s not that I’m an expert on all aspects of the law – we have dependencies – and our firm is departmentalized to have various practices such as CYBER, Corporate Compliance, Dispute Resolution, Litigation & Arbitration, Family & Private Affairs, and so on – but when I need to understand something, I become a novice and go to my practice head and ask for clarification. In one of my early years of practicing cyber law, we had a case that required me to take a crash course in cyber to grasp the foundations and then use my legal knowledge.”
