This new company is offering a free TV with a couple of stipulations

Take your time before purchasing a new TV because you might just be able to get one for free. Telly, an electronics company founded by Ilya Pozin, co-founder of Pluto TV, is generously giving away 50,000 free television sets. These 55-Inch 4K TVs, funded by advertising, come with a unique feature – dual screens. While one screen is dedicated solely to displaying advertisements, the main screen is reserved for your entertainment.
The advertisements appear on a secondary screen known as the “Smart Display.” This compact screen is positioned below the main TV and is separated by a soundbar. Its purpose is to showcase various enjoyable widgets such as sports scores, news tickers, weather updates, and even stock prices. It’s like having your very own personalized newsroom right in your living room.
As stated on Telly’s website, the ads will be displayed on the far right side of the Smart Display or might appear as a sponsored news feed on the left side of the screen. While the TV itself is completely free, there is a catch. You’ll need to pay with your attention or data. Telly’s business model revolves around selling user data to advertisers and delivering targeted ads to viewers.
According to Janko Roettgers, a reliable source, Telly’s TV could revolutionize the television industry. It’s an excellent option for those seeking an affordable TV or for those willing to trade a bit of their privacy for quality entertainment. But is compromising privacy worth it for freebies?
“In co-founding Pluto TV, we introduced a groundbreaking model that provided viewers with amazing TV content for free. Now, with Telly, we are taking it a step further by offering the actual television for free as well,” stated Ilya Pozin, the co-founder of Telly.
If the ad-driven approach concerns you, fret not. The Telly Chief Strategy Officer has confirmed that the ads will not interrupt your viewing experience on the main screen. They are specifically designed to be displayed on the second screen that accompanies the main unit.
However, he noted that when the top screen “theater display” is not in use, advertisements can come to life in a fun way using both displays.
“When the Theatre display (top screen) is not in use, the ad unit could come to life in a fun way connecting both,” Chief Strategy Officer said. “There are literally hundreds of things we are thinking about to create the most engaging ad experience ever.”
Additionally, Telly is working on a feature called “Telly Rewards.” Users can earn gift cards for popular services like Netflix or Starbucks by participating in on-screen polls and other activities. It’s like getting paid to watch TV! Although Chief Strategy Officer did not disclose many details about Telly Rewards, the prospects are already intriguing. It’s worth noting that the TV is currently unavailable for buyers in India.
