Thomson ventures into ACs, aims to achieve a 10% market share in 3 years

Just ahead of the summer season, consumer electronics company Thomson has forayed into the air conditioner category. In India, the firm sells washing machines and air coolers, and it has lately introduced split air conditioners beginning at INR 26,490. On the Flipkart e-commerce portal, the air conditioners will be available.
“With our strategic partner Flipkart, we are very excited about this launch and introducing Thomson ACs to the Indian market; in five years, Thomson will invest 500 crores in home appliances alone, and by the end of three years, we plan to achieve 10% of the online AC market,” Avneet Singh Marwah, CEO, Super Plastronics Pvt. Ltd.(SPPL) and India Brand Licensee of Thomson said in a statement. The firm intends to achieve this indigenization as a result of the government’s production-linked incentive (PLI) scheme for air conditioners, which has pushed it to invest and build a reliable component ecosystem.
Thomson has introduced convertible split air conditioners in 1 tonne and 1.5-tonne capacities, with 3 and 5-star ratings. The company’s fixed speed 1 tonne 3-star AC costs INR 26,490, while the 1.5 tonne5-Star Split Inverter AC costs INR 33,999. First-time purchasers seeking economical air conditioners are the target demographic for 1 tonne AC, which is at the entry price range.
The premium and cheap category catering to the middle class and upper-middle-class is the target customer for its 1.5-tonne ACs under the 3-star. A more specialised consumer group is also present under the 5-star. Thomson has been in the market for a long time and claims to have concentrated on its after-sales network, which includes over 700 facilities giving door-to-door assistance in Tier 1, 2, and 3 towns and cities.
Soon after a power cut, the new ACs include auto-restart, which guarantees that the ACs instantly turn back on and resume operations according to the previously utilised settings. They also include a self-diagnostic feature, which means that if there is a problem while the machine is running, the AC will show an error number for rapid diagnosis and to safeguard the equipment from damage.
