ZestMoney, India‘s popular and fastest-growing EMI financing and Buy Now, Pay Later (BNPL) network, has released the findings of a customer survey that aims to better understand the summer vacation travel plans and preferences of Indians. The survey received responses from over 2,000 participants from across India, most of whom were Millennials and Gen Z.
According to the survey, 70% of people said they want to travel during the summer, reflecting the slowdown in demand from the last two years of the pandemic. While 60% said they would travel within the country, around 40% said they were most likely to travel outside India in the next three months, now that pandemic restrictions have been lifted. While the majority of respondents said that cost-effective travel is their top priority, many others said that they are willing to spend more for the finest travel experience.
Quick Glance
A large percentage of respondents (63%) said they would pay for their trip via EMI/pay-later alternatives, while 33% said they would use their savings to pay for it.
“We are seeing a renewed and increased interest among Indian customers, who are overcoming pandemic resistance and traveling with enthusiasm. With the economy opening up and the easing of Covid restrictions, people want to make the best of their holidays. EMI/Pay Later is emerging as a preferred option as it not only facilitates better budget planning but also helps them to get the most out of their travel plans.” SaidLizzie Chapman, CEO & Co-founder of ZestMoney.
According to the survey, the need to escape daily life, the desire to learn new things, and the desire to break the monotony of the previous two years and have new experiences emerged as key motivating factors behind travel intentions. According to the survey, while Goa remains India’s most popular summer destination, Kashmir, Ladakh, and Kerala have emerged as additional popular summer destinations.
Shimla, Jaipur, Agra, Sikkim, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Ooty, and Dehradun also figured on the bucket list.
“Most of the transactions in the travel category are driven by zero-interest and no-cost ‘Pay-in-3’ options, followed by offerings with six months and nine months tenure,” Chapman continues. Travel is on track to become one of our most important categories.”
