Uber brings a new safety feature that allows drivers, riders to record audio during trips
Uber has included a few safety features for both users and drivers. The ride-hailing behemoth has introduced a new audio recording tool that allows customers to capture sounds while on the trip. The function is available to both drivers and riders. Uber now has audio recording capabilities in 14 countries, including Mexico and Brazil. Uber will begin testing in three locations in the United States. The feature is yet to be announced in India by the firm.
Uber has added an audio recording capability to improve the safety of both drivers and riders. By touching the shield symbol in the app’s Safety Toolkit and selecting “Record Audio,” the user may enable the audio recording capability. Individual journeys are recorded by both riders and drivers.
Drivers may, however, keep the recording feature turned on while seeking rides. When the driver activates the recording, the rider will be notified. “Riders and drivers can opt to record audio after enabling the function by pressing the shield symbol on the map screen and selecting “Record Audio.” Individual journeys may be recorded by both riders and drivers, and drivers will be able to leave the function on while they’re online. If a driver has chosen to participate in the functionality, we will notify the rider in their app before the journey “According to Uber.
In Rio de Janeiro, over 70% of customers and drivers survey said this feature made them feel safer when using Uber. The audio file will be end-to-end encrypted, and no one, even Uber, will be able to access it, according to Uber’s blog.
Nobody will be able to access the file because it will be saved on the riders‘ and drivers’ cell phones. Users may, however, share a safety report with Uber and provide the audio file. An Uber executive will decrypt and examine the supplied audio recording, as well as any other relevant material, once the report is received to assess what transpired and the best course of action.
Uber has no access to the audio unless the user specifically requests it. It will be entirely up to the user to decide whether or not to share the audio file with Uber. The user’s phone will retain the file.
