Adani Group Begins Operations Of World’s Largest Copper Plant At Gujarat.

On Thursday, March 28, 2024, Gautam Adani led Adani Group announced the beginning of thee world’s largest single location copper manufacturing plant at Mundra Taluka in Kachchh district of Gujarat.

The production will be in a phase wise manner, where the first phase will be commissioned by the Kutch Copper Ltd. (KCL) a subsidiary group created under the flagship wing of Adani Group, Adani Enterprises Ltd. (AEL). With an investment of $1.2 billion, the company aims to produce 1 MTPA.
The initial phase of the copper plant will produce around 0.5 MTPA (Million Ton Per Annum) of refined copper and will achieve the goal of 1 MTPA by FY 2029.
Copper is a crucial component in EV’s (Electrical Vehicle), charging equipment, batteries and all which is required in energy transition from fossil fuel based energy sources to sustainable form of energy. Currently, India’s per capita copper demand is even less than 1 Kg, and the global average is around 3.6kg , with the energy transitions India’s per capita demand is expected to double by 2030.
This plant will generate a total of 7,000 jobs in the future among which 2,000 direct and 5,000 indirect jobs will be created.
Copper is one of the most used industrial metal ranking on third after steel and aluminium, and its demand has been consistently rising, exports have been on the rise since last 5 years.
